Then he looks at his backpack.

He opens the backpack.
“It is in the backpack.”
John looks at the floor.
His shoes are there.
“My shoes are under the table,” he says.
Then he looks at the bed.
His jacket is next to it.
“My jacket is next to the bed.”
Now John understands more about the space around him. He can see things and say where they are.
